For All and None

This has been a most pleasant week. A staggered 5-day weekend allows for a lack of planning on my part, so I can work myself into the ground and then hit the sack for as many hours. I've been having dreams of the Ouroborus...and I welcome whatever Jungian interpretation you may make from that.

Events this week have also aided in adding that proverbial final straw that breaks the camel's back, diminishing what little respect I had for bio-engineers to sub-zero. Unfortunately, it does seem like the most promising science. All the hype that it has generated in the media promises that it will continue to be a very well-funded field. I guess the best thing for a person who opposes bio-engineering would be to become a mathematician and weep for a lack of wastepaper baskets to keep erroneous theorems in.

In more cheerful sectors, Jon Stewart has been announced as the host at this year's Oscars:

"As a performer, I'm truly honored to be hosting the show. Although, as an avid watcher of the Oscars, I can't help but be a little disappointed with the choice. It appears to be another sad attempt to smoke out Billy Crystal."

Well, let us hope this is not ill-fated.
