
The highlighted bit of this paragraph really makes my blood boil. There has got to be an alternative to subscripts and superscripts for expressing mathematics! In any case, the expression should have been written with the Sigma function, like so:

Not only is it neat, it also does the job of making sure that fewer typos occur. Adopting a zero tolerance stance towards typos in mathematical expressions will ensure that poor souls like me do not agonize over not being able to prove a fabricated (albeit unintentionally) theorem.
Even being able to prove the case for k = 2 has not cheered me from this. (well, maybe a little...)
